NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

Now that we are just about to start a new year, I wonder if I can commit myself to a brief list of good resolutions. The fact is that I do this every year but, this time and for a change, I’m going to do it publicly, so that any of you can reproach me by December 2009. Anyway, I happen to feel brave enough today, so here we go:
1) Update this blog at least as regularly as once a week.
2) Arrange a lot of outdoor activities with my family (for spring and summer).
3) Get fit (children or work won’t be potential excuses).
4) Write more often and read Paul Auster (at last, because I’ve been postponing his reading for the last two years!).
5) Walk my dog more often.
That’s enough. Now I am looking forward to reading yours.

Creo que cualquier profesor que no se haya planteado aún la idea de un blog (ya sea tutor blog, class blog o learner blog) debería considerarla seriamente, ya que le permitirá mantenerse al día con las nuevas tecnologías al mismo tiempo que promueve su uso en el aula. No es algo exclusivo de la clase de idiomas, sino que es una herramienta de trabajo válida para cualquier asignatura dada la variedad de aplicaciones posibles. Se trata de darle vueltas al coco y hacerla útil.
Yo tengo que agradecer a mis alumnos de 4º ESO-Z del curso 2007-2008 (otro día explicaré cómo transformamos la B en Z) parte de mi inspiración para este blog, ya que iniciamos juntos un superforo (un class blog pero a lo bestia) que hoy día es nuestro mejor y más eficaz medio de contacto. Además, es compatible con otras redes sociales tipo tuenti o facebook.
Pues nada, reciclarse o morir.

Justificaciones innecesarias

A medida que pasan las semanas y me ilusiono con el mantenimiento de este blog, me veo en la estúpida e innecesaria necesidad de justificar sus contenidos y explicar la existencia de ciertos enlaces. La gente que me conoce sabe dar respuesta a casi todo el contenido de NO SURRENDER, pero si no es tu caso, me gustaría que te sintieras poco a poco como en casa. Empezaré por lo obvio, que es mi incondicional afición, mi incomprensible devoción, mi injustificable pasión por BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. El título de este blog es un homenaje a una de sus más grandes canciones, publicada en su álbum BORN IN THE USA (1984), y que marca a fuego mi vida personal y profesional (no retirarse, no rendirse). Ya os contaré en otra ocasión cómo he conseguido insertar sus letras y música en mis clases de inglés, pero hoy sólo pretendía justificar, aunque no hiciera falta, la omnipresencia de the boss en este blog.

He tardado una semana en darme cuenta de lo cerrado que podía ser el círculo de seguidores de mi blog si sólo escribía en inglés. Por supuesto que mi intención es compartir mis ideas más allá de las lenguas (con la limitación obvia que supone el desconocimiento de éstas).
Tomando mi limitación como punto de partida, escribiré indistintamente en inglés y en español, dependiendo del tema a tratar, de mi estado de ánimo o del número de horas de sol que disfrutemos ese día. Leeré sin problema cualquier comentario en francés aunque rara vez sentiré la necesidad de tomar prestada la lengua de Houellebecq.

It took me a week to realize that fewer people would read my blog if it was only written in English. In fact, I mean to share my ideas no matter what language you speak (of course there is an obvious limitation if you can't speak the language at issue).
Therefore, lines either in English or Spanish will share this blog from now on. Comments in French are also welcome (and perfectly understood). So feel free to speak your mind!

On va bien sûr parler du monde de l’éducation mais si tu as quelqu'autre chose à dire en français, tu seras toujours bienvenu(e): ce sont nos vies qui nous inspirent à chaque pas. So this is Christmas!!! I definitely needed a break. I check my my e-mail account and the first thing I see is this absolutely gorgeous song by the boss, especially written for Mickey Rourke's performance. It's simply a fantastic kick-off for my holidays. It looks like one of those unforgettable winter stories to watch on a cold, rainy afternoon. Enjoy the trailer and the music too.

Marks

Second day talking about students and marks and still one to go. I'm simply knackered. It's probably the worst part of my job: assessment is a pain! The only good thing is that you can spend more time with your workmates and even (depending on the day) have some fun. When I was a student, I used to think about these meetings of teachers discussing about marks and behaviours, and now that I'm part of them I like imagining my own students' feelings about it. Anyway, only three days left and two and a half weeks' break. I am looking forward to going for a hike and forgetting about the fact that I am a teacher.

Nothing like a walk under surprising snow to put your ideas in order. Watching my dog Wender enjoying the snow I just happened to settle my contents for this blog: it's going to be about my personal experiences as an English teacher, but not putting aside the rest of my life. That's what my life is like, I can´t take one thing and forget the rest since my life itself is the main pillar of my career. So, enjoy my work, my life, my blog.
